Amblyeleotris aurora
Description
A pale banded shrimp goby finished with a bright orange-spotted tail. Best kept with a pistol shrimp, where the pair's partnership becomes the centrepiece of a sand bed.
Feeding
Carnivorous. Frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp and small marine pellets, twice daily.
Compatibility
Peaceful and reef safe. Forms a symbiotic partnership with a pistol shrimp, which digs and maintains the burrow while the goby stands guard.
Behaviour and personality
Perches at the burrow entrance, watching. Bolts underground at any disturbance. The pairing with a pistol shrimp is one of the best behaviours available in a home reef.
Before you buy
Pair it with a pistol shrimp - Alpheus randalli is the usual choice - for the full behaviour. Needs a deep sand bed with rubble to burrow into, and a sealed lid.
