The Swan Mussel is a large, peaceful freshwater bivalve valued for its natural filtering ability and unique, shell-based appearance. Calm and undemanding, it helps maintain water clarity by consuming suspended particles, making it a useful addition to coldwater ponds and spacious aquariums.

FeedingA filter feeder that consumes microscopic particles, algae, phytoplankton, and organic debris from the water column. Requires a well-established system with a natural supply of suspended food; supplemental phytoplankton may be necessary in very clean tanks.
Tank MatesPeaceful and safe with all non-predatory species. Best suited to ponds or large aquariums with gentle fish such as goldfish, minnows, loaches, and peaceful coldwater species. Avoid crayfish or large fish that may disturb or damage the mussel.
AggressionCompletely peaceful. Does not interact aggressively with any tank mates.
