Care guide at a glance
Chaetodon unimaculatus
Description
A yellow-bodied butterflyfish marked with a single large black teardrop on the flank and a dark eye band. One of the more feedable Chaetodon.
Feeding
Omnivorous and more adaptable than most butterflyfish. Frozen mysis, clam, chopped prawn and marine pellets, two or three times daily.
Compatibility
Peaceful toward fish. Not reef safe - will eat soft corals, zoanthids and polyps.
Behaviour and personality
Cruises steadily, picking at rockwork. Settles more readily than the obligate coral feeders.
Before you buy
Among the easier butterflyfish to establish, but thoroughly unsafe with soft corals. Best in a fish-only system.
