Care guide at a glance
Amphiprion biaculeatus
Description
A bonded pair of Thunder maroon clowns, the white bars broken into jagged branching patterns over a deep maroon body.
Feeding
Marine pellets, flake and frozen mysis and brine shrimp. A vigorous feeder.
Compatibility
Reef safe but the most aggressive of the clownfish, particularly mature females. Keep singly or as a bonded pair with robust tankmates.
Behaviour and personality
Bold and strongly territorial. Females grow much larger than males and will defend a host against your hand during maintenance.
Before you buy
Sold as an established bonded pair, which avoids the risk of two unpaired adults fighting. Introduce them together, do not separate them, and do not add a third clownfish. Designer patterns continue developing for the first year or two. Maroon clowns are the largest and most territorial of the clownfish and will bite during maintenance.
