Overview
The Viator Snakehead Gudgeon is a slender, active sleeper goby with a streamlined “snakehead-like” profile and attractive mottled patterning. It is adaptable, hardy, and well-suited to a variety of freshwater and low-end brackish setups.
OriginWidely distributed across northern Australia, New Guinea, and parts of Southeast Asia. Found in rivers, creeks, billabongs, and estuaries with sandy or silty substrates.
FeedingCarnivorous but unfussy. Accepts sinking carnivore pellets, high-quality frozen foods (mysis, brine shrimp, bloodworm), chopped prawn, and small live foods. Offer varied, protein-rich meals to maintain colour and condition.
Tank MatesGenerally peaceful and fast enough to coexist with a broad range of species. Suitable companions include rainbowfish, hardy tetras, peaceful cichlids, larger gudgeons, and brackish species (if kept in slightly salty water). Avoid very small fish and shrimp, which may be eaten.
AggressionLow to moderate. May establish a small territory, especially with similar gobies, but rarely causes serious conflict. Can be kept singly or in a spacious tank with multiple hiding spots.
Experience LevelBeginner to intermediate. Very hardy, adaptable, and tolerant of a range of conditions.
