Trachelyopterus insignis
Description
A stocky, nocturnal driftwood catfish with long trailing barbels and mottled brown camouflage. Rarely seen during the day and considerably more interesting after dark.
Feeding
Carnivorous and nocturnal. Sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, mussel and prawn, fed after lights out.
Compatibility
Peaceful toward fish it cannot swallow, but it will eat anything small enough. Do not house with tetras, rasboras or shrimp. Fine with larger community fish.
Behaviour and personality
Spends the day wedged under wood or in a cave and emerges at night to feed. Occasionally sociable with its own kind.
Before you buy
Needs bogwood and caves to feel secure, and feeding at night so it actually gets food. Assume anything under 5 cm will eventually disappear.
