This bottom-dwelling species typically grows to around 4 inches in length. It is known for its ability to quickly burrow into sandy or rubble areas, leaving only its protruding eyes and mouth visible.As a carnivore, the Yellow barred Jawfish feeds on small crustaceans, worms, and other invertebrates by quickly emerging from its burrow to catch prey. In the aquarium, it should be offered a diet of live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and chopped seafood.The Yellow barred Jawfish is generally peaceful but can be territorial towards its own species or similar jawfish. It is best kept singly or in a mated pair in a fish-only or reef-compatible aquarium with plenty of open sandy areas for burrowing.
