Oxygenators photosynthesise underwater creating oxygen, which then dissolves. This is not only essential for all animal life, but also for bacteria which help keep the pond water clear.

Weighed bunches can simply be dropped into the pond, but all oxygenating pond plant bundles would benefit from being planted in soil or gravel within a planting basket.

In autumn, trim back dead foliage of hardy waterlilies and let them die back to the bottom of the pond. If you have small, new or tender waterlilies, try and keep them somewhere frost-free over winter.

Water lettuce is not a hardy pond plant and will not tolerate low temperatures or harsh sunlight (excessive heat). It is recommended that water lettuce is brought inside over winter.

Ferns are ideal for planting around ponds and in water gardens. Ferns like damp ground, and are ideal for providing cover for pond wildlife such as frogs and toads.

When placing Deep Water Plants into the pond make sure to lower them in stages to allow the plant to acclimatise to its new depth. This allows the leaves to stretch to the surface during each stage of the descent.
